![]() Blue ice - it's a strange sight for us non-Alaskans. (Incidentally, it's blue not because it's reflecting the water or sky, but because the ice is condensed, thus reflecting the long-wave bluish end of the sun's light spectrum.) Trivia aside, you'll be having a blue-ice day when your ship detours off the main channel of Stephens Passage up the narrows of Endicott Arm or Tracy Arm - the latter featuring the spectacular Sawyer Glacier at the very tip of its fingers. In the end, it's yet another day of tremendous scenery for you: evergreens, mountains, blue ice . . . in Alaska, the fun never stops for the scenery-lovers among us. |
