Carnival Long Beach Cruise Terminal Opens
Carnival is very happy to announce that it's new, state-of-the-art cruise terminal in Long Beach is ready. Located a short distance from Los Angeles, this cruise terminal will afford Carnival's guests a fabulous experience.

The Long Beach Cruise Terminal is among the most technically advanced cruise facilities in the world, setting new standards in terms of convenience, efficiency and spaciousness. This will not only provide guests with an unparalleled level of service, but also serve as an economic catalyst to the Long Beach community.

The new facility takes up nearly half of the existing Geodesic Dome, which once served as the home of the Spruce Goose seaplane owned by Howard Hughes, and offers easy access to nearby tourist attractions such as The Aquarium of the Pacific, Shoreline Village and Rainbow Harbor.

The new terminal, the first in the U.S. to be built by a cruise operator, will initially serve as the homeport to two 2,052-passenger Carnival "Fun Ships" - the Ecstasy, which will depart Fridays on three-day voyages to Ensenada, and Mondays on four-day cruises to Ensenada and Catalina Island, and the Elation, sailing Sundays on seven-day voyages to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas (the 2,124-passenger Carnival Pride will assume this route in September 2003).

Other highlights include:

  • A single, 1,110-foot-long, 28-foot-deep berth capable of accommodating today's
    massive mega liners

  • A 30,000-square-foot terminal/embarkation facility housing staff offices, luggage collection areas, and U.S. Immigration and Customs check-in stations

  • 300-foot-long, 35-foot-high passenger gangway that extends from the second floor of
the cruise terminal directly to the Empress Deck of the Elation and Ecstasy

  • 1,450 vehicle parking garage within easy walking distance of the cruise terminal via covered walkway

  • An intermodal area with separate car, bus and taxi drop-off and pick-up areas, and X-ray screening area for checked luggage, which is carried to the ship via a tram system

  • An outdoor plaza leading to The Carnival Lounge aboard the Queen Mary, offering guests an opportunity to check in prior to their cruise and then explore the many features aboard the historic ocean liner

Carnival Pride repositions to Los Angeles/Long Beach to operate seven-day Mexican Riviera cruises beginning September 21st, bringing a fresh new alternative to this highly popular route, which includes visits to the resort destinations of Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas.

The "goose" is gone (it was barged up to a new home
in Oregon a decade ago) but the city's most recognizable attraction remains right next door - the magnificent Queen Mary. With the coming of Carnival, for the first time
since her arrival here in 1967, the venerable "Queen"
will have company.

Estimates put the number of cruise passengers expected
to use the facility at between 300,000 and 500,000
yearly. In addition to the familiar white dome, the port
facilities will include a 1,000-foot-long dock, a 1,250-car parking structure, and food and food and beverage
kiosks for waiting cruise passengers.

Sleep With the Queen! Carnival is offering one, two, and three-night pre and post cruise hotel packages onboard the Queen Mary. Hotel packages include hotel (Queen Mary rooms retain their original Art Deco style), tax, and admission to self-guided tours of the 1936 ship. Packages range in price from $105 to $210 per person based on double occupancy. Slightly higher rates apply for packages that include a rental car.
