A rolling course that is layed out at the base of Mount Haleakala, featuring ravines, gullies, and rock walls. The greens at both courses are very sloped, and make for a good challenge to players with shots coming in above the hole.

The sloping, hilly fairways on the side of the West Maui mountains combined with the trade winds make for a truly challenging day at Sandalwood. There are a lot of elevated greens, and many of the par 4's are long, straight, and into the wind. There are many sandalwood trees here, giving the golf course its name.

This course is located on the coast and the front nine hole all play down near the water, while the back nine move up into a much hillier area. The wind comes into play on the front nine, making for challenging club selections. Waihue Golf Course has some great scenery, including the West Maui mountains and the nearby macadamia nut groves.
