Board your air-conditioned mini-van at the dock and travel through Roseau, the island capital, as your guide points out the sights of interest along the way. Continue to the hills forming the boundary of the Springfield Valley, enjoying panoramic views of the city. Then descend into the island’s fertile Layou Valley on an approximately 90-minute drive through a landscape that mixes tropical rain forest with banana, mango, citrus, cacao, papaya and avocado plantations. | Flower Gardens And Creole Cooking
With Lunch Adult: $99 Child: $79 (12 & under) Duration: 4 hours Tour several of the island’s beautiful flower gardens and enjoy a Creole cooking demonstration and lunch. Board your air-conditioned transportation and drive through a potion of Roseau to the Botanical Gardens. Observe Dominica’s national bird, the sisserou parrot, and see some of the islands tallest and most exotic trees. Continue on a scenic mountain drive to the village of Eggleston. Upon arrival, your guide will provide a brief history of gardening in this community before visiting a few of the lovely flower gardens. Next proceed to the village of Giraudel where the garden tour will be conducted by the gardeners themselves. Your tour continues to the community center where refreshments will be served and entertainment will be provided by the Giraudel Jing Ping Band. There will also be local crafts, souvenirs and cut flowers for sale. The next stop is the Green Mountain Flower Garden where the owner will conduct a tour of the flower production facilities. The final stop is the Exotica Guesthouse where a guided tour of the natural and organic gardens will precede a demonstration of Caribbean Creole cooking using fresh picked local vegetables and fruits. Board your air-conditioned transportation and drive through Roseau and the Botanical Gardens. The gardens feature many of the exotic flora native to the island and the sisserou parrot, Dominica’s national bird. Travel on to the spectacular Trafalgar Falls. From the interpretative center it is a 15-minute walk to the sheltered viewing area for the magnificent Mother and Father Falls. Afterwards enjoy a scenic drive through the Roseau Valley on the way to the picturesque Fresh Water Lake. The lake is the largest in Dominica and has a volcanic origin. Drive to the Rain Forest Aerial Tram where a light lunch will be served prior to viewing an informative video about the rain forest. Board your gondola for a 90-minute narrated ride through and above the tree tops. You may disembark the gondola near the end for an optional walk across a 275-foot long suspension bridge from which you typically observe four to five small waterfalls on a rainy day. The walk continues down the Chatannier Nature Trail where you re-board your gondola for the return trip back to the main base. A complimentary beverage will be served and there you will have time to browse through the gift shop prior to your transfer back to the ship. Enjoy a relaxing and fun float down the Layou River. Board your transportation at the dock and travel through Roseau, the island capital, on an approximately 30-minute scenic drive to the Layou River Gorge in the lush Layou Valley. Meet your tubing guide and receive an orientation and safety briefing. Then set off in your river tube, floating down river. Tall cliffs overhang parts of the river and the banks are lined with lush tropical rain forest. At the conclusion of your trip pull into the bank for a refreshing fruit or rum punch. Watching Adult: $69 Child: $55 (12 & under) Duration: 3 1/2 hours Erich Hoity, consultant to the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, calls Dominica the “most reliable spot for North American whale watchers to see sperm whales.” Board your motorized vessel, featuring a partially covered deck, and cruise to a point approximately eight miles off shore. As you search for marine mammals, your guide provides a running commentary on the marine life found off Dominica. Whales and dolphins are usually spotted on the surface or located with the use of an underwater hydrophone. The deep waters surrounding Dominica are a natural breeding ground for sperm whales; several species of dolphins are occasionally encountered. | New Waves/Champagne Reef
Snorkeling Adult: $39 Child: $31 (12 & under) Duration : 2 1/2 hours Snorkel in the waters of Champagne Reef, named for the bubbles that continuously rise from this shallow reef. After a short walk to your departure point, board your motorized, covered catamaran for the short cruise to Champagne Reef. The reef is perched on the edge of a submerged volcano; you can actually feel the hot water venting from the earth’s depths. After a brief orientation and safety lecture, don your snorkel equipment and enjoy ample time to explore the crystalline water. The reef teems with small tropical fish, including blackbar, parrot, soldier, and damsel fish. The nutrient-rich water also nurtures star, brain and finger corals, as well as yellow tube, vase and giant barrel sponges along with orange crinoids. Snorkel equipment, including safety vest, professional instruction, supervision and transportation are included.
